White supremacist site Daily Stormer is once again homeless as its Russian domain registrar has also banned the site.Notorious for promoting hatred and violence against minority communities, the site finally bit off more than it could chew when it attacked Heather Heyer, a protester who was killed by a car at the Charlottesville protest, reports ArsTechnica.
First, the site’s original registrar GoDaddy booted the site from its servers. Daily Stormer then moved to Google’s domain registration service before being booted off yet again. Soon after, Cloudflare, a famously neutral content delivery network (CDN) and internet security provider decided to drop protection for the site as well. Cloudflare CEO Matthew Prince had some choice words for the site and in a blog, explained why he decided to dump Daily Stormer.
The story doesn’t end there. Daily Stormer found a Russian host for itself. This seemed to work for a while, but it turns out that the site’s content was too strong even for Russian stomachs. A Russian government inquiry into the hosting of the site resulted in the suspension of Daily Stormer's .ru domain as well reports Radio Free Europe.
Ru-Center, the Russian web host used by Daily Stormer, received a letter from the Roskomnadzor, a federal service that supervises communications, IT and mass media in Russia. The letter requested that Ru-Center “look into the possibility of register suspension due to extremist content of this domain”. Ru-Center then suspended the domain.
Facebook and Twitter have also suspended accounts linked to the white supremacist site and have removed websites linking to Daily Stormer, adds Radio Free Europe.
Silicon Valley has come together in condemnation of the Charlottesville attacks as well as for US President Donald Trump’s response to the situation.
